Dutch Hunting Sword

Circa 1860

Probably the best Sword to come on the market in Years

Oa Length in scabard 780 mm

Ivory Hilt

Hunting scenes and foliage on Blade

Light stains on Blade

Gilded fittings with Silver Crowns.

Under shell guard the word Eyzerhouwer which I am told means Damascus Steel.

Possibly owned by the Dutch Royal family.

This was part of the story told to me by an ex Changi POW who souvenired it.

Apparently the sword was part of a consignment of Dutch Royalty valuables sent from Holland to the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia)at the outbreak of the second world war. When the Japanese overran the area in 1942 the valuables were no longer safe and most were transshipped to Australia. This sword is said to have been one of the items which did not get away.
